LoRa (from Long Range) is a proprietary radio communication protocol technology.
LoRa uses a spread spectrum modulation scheme to achieve a wide area communication capability using very low transmitted power.
LoRaWAN is a wide-area network specification that uses LoRa as its network transmission scheme. LoRaWAN is defined by an ITU specification. The data rates are fairly low ranging from 300 to 50k bits per second per channel.
LoRa uses the sub-GHz frequencies of the unlicensed ISM bands.
